Irresistible
The most exciting night of Adam Clark's young life was about to start and the new Earl of Harlow was beside himself with glee. He flung himself into his carriage with a shouted 'drive on' for his coachman and sat back in his seat. He was the luckiest man in London. He might have everything he wanted and needed sooner than he'd hoped.
Grinning, he ripped open his note, a gift from the gods if there ever was one, and held it up to the light. His name was clearly lettered in a delicate feminine hand, and inside was the answers to his prayers.
The name of his future wife.
“Well?” His companion, Ethan Rudhall, demanded in a surly tone. “Are you going to tell me what that was all about? I've been waiting here all night it seems for you to come back. I thought we were going to talk about our future.”
Adam waved the paper. “I've found a wife.”
Ethan sat up from his slump. “I damn well hope not.”
Curses. Ethan was supposed to be pleased by this development. “You know I must marry. People are beginning to talk.”
An angry scowl marred Ethan's handsome face. “Let them.”
Adam swallowed a groan when his best friend crossed his arm over his chest. Mr. Ethan Rudhall, ten years his senior, was very set in his ways and resisted any form of change. Adding a wife to their relationship would be problematic. Despite the likely upset to their lives, Adam knew his duty. He required a wife to produce the necessary heir for the continuation of the family name, title and the future of the estate. A lot of people were counting on him and he was not enjoying the increased level of scrutiny he was under because of his lack of interest in the subject.
Tonight’s invitation to a private matchmaking service, if that’s what it could be called, solved the problem of his exclusion from Almack’s. His failure to acquire entry had not boded well for the season, making finding a wife so much harder.
He sat forward and set his hands on Ethan's thighs. “I must do this and you know it. Taking a wife does not mean I feel any less for you. You have my heart, Ethan, and no wife could ever change that. Besides, it is not as if you have never brought a woman to our bed before. Perhaps she will be an open minded lass.” Adam smiled at his lover, hoping Ethan could see the potential benefits.
“That is completely different. An experienced woman would not have a fit of the vapors should I put your cock in my mouth to bring you off. A virgin wife—” Ethan shook his head.
He had a point. A young inexperienced woman may not be so understanding of his wants and needs. It was the reason he had delayed finding a wife. He couldn't live without seeing Ethan every day. Reducing their association to the occasional dalliance was completely out of the question.
He had to
